About Vural Seven

Prof. Dr. Vural Seven was born in 1966 in Kahramanmaraş/Afşin and graduated from the İstanbul University Faculty of Law in 1989. In 1990 he was appointed a research assistant in the Department of Commercial Law at the Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Law, and in the same year he completed his legal traineeship at the Izmir Bar.

Having completed his master's degree in 1993 at the Department of Private Law of the Institute of Social Sciences of İstanbul University, Seven began his doctoral studies in 1994 at the Department of Private Law of the Institute of Social Sciences of Dokuz Eylül University. Carrying out research for his doctoral thesis at the University of Münster (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität) in Germany between June 1997 and August 1998, Seven earned the title of "Doctor of Law" in 2001 with his doctoral thesis on "The Carrier's Liability Arising from the Breach of the Duty of Care for the Cargo". In the same year he began working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Commercial Law of the Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Law and as Head of the Department of Maritime Law. Having obtained the title of "Associate Professor of Commercial Law" in 2013 with his habilitation thesis on "The Legal Status of the Consignee in Transport Law", Seven currently practises law as a member registered with the Izmir Bar.

In keeping with his expertise, Prof. Dr. Vural Seven has taken part in numerous disputes and given lectures in various venues. In particular, within the scope of the work carried out to introduce the New Turkish Commercial Code, he taught in the training activities organised for judges by the HSYK (Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors) and the Justice Academy. Prof. Dr. Vural Seven, who since its establishment has served in numerous disputes as an appeal arbitrator at the Insurance Arbitration Commission and continues to hold this role, has published books and articles in the fields of commercial, transport, maritime and insurance law.

His main fields of work are, within the scope of commercial law, in particular maritime commercial law, transport law, negotiable instruments and insurance law. In addition to these fields, he also takes a keen interest in company and cooperatives law and in capital markets and stock exchange law.

Furthermore, the "Insurance Law" lectures he prepared for the Open Education Faculty of Anadolu University were broadcast on TRT 4.

Alongside his academic work, he has practised law as a member registered with the Izmir Bar since 1991. Since 2016–2017, Seven has served as a faculty member at the Turkish-German University Faculty of Law.

He has three books, primarily in various fields of commercial law, and more than twenty articles on various subjects, and he speaks German.
